中文看起來都有撕、扯的意思，有什麼不一樣呢？

tear:

to damage something such as paper or cloth by pulling it hard or letting it touch something sharp

Examples:

His clothes were old and torn. (他的衣服已經又舊又破)
Be careful not to tear the paper. (小心不要把紙撕破了)

rip :

to tear something or be torn quickly and violently

Examples:

Her clothes had all been ripped. 她的衣服被(用力地)撕破了。
Sue ripped the letter open. 她(用力地)把信拆開。

當成撕開或裂開時是同意詞，不過最大的差別在：

 ‘Rip’ is more violent than ‘tear’ and an altogether more forceful word. 
Rip感覺上是比 tear 的行為來的暴力/用力一點(而且面積比tear大)。
